Hi folks,
I've a need to clean up some defunct/unused services such as:

OracleOraHome92TNSListenerTEST_LNS2
...

'oradim' utility works with remove/delete an Oracle Service for the particular SID, but not for the listener service and others.

Regards,

You need to delete the listener service entry listed in the registry at

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\OracleOraHome92TNSListenerTEST_LNS2

you can use instsrv.exe to delete obsolete services.

find it from windows\system32 folder.

Dear ebrian,
Thanks for your help. It works perfectly. I've a chance to learn about how to backup windows registry, before making a change to it, too.

Dear Sandeep,
I was looking for it, but I couldn't find this executable, instsrv.exe, in my entire C: drive, my "c:\windows" or "c:\windows\system32" XP directories.

You'll need to get it from a Windows Resource Kit, that's why I was hesitant to suggest that method.

ebrian is correct. This is part of windows resource kit.

However, once you have it, its simple to use. Also, some folks are not comfortable in editing or changing registry. This utility will help those users.

Hi Guys,

I could find three sets of ControlSet Keys named ControlSet001,ControlSet003 and CurrentControlset. Of these keys I could delete the entries in ControlSet003 and CurrentControlset. When I tried to delete the key named LEGACY_ORACLEORAHOME92TNSLISTENER<SID> in ControlSet001 it gave some error.

Even after deleting the entries in ControlSet003 and CurrentControlset the service didn't get removed from services window too. I request your advice on this matter.

Warm Regards,

Shaiju

You need to reboot for the listener service to be removed completely.

In order to delete the LEGACY registry entry, you need to modify the security settings for that entry in the registry.
