Hi,

I have tried to install oracle 9i database (R2)( first 3 cds out of 4 cds) on my home pc. the os is Win 2003 server.

It is showing the messages while the installation taking place:

Error:
Thrown when the IP address of a host cannot be determined.

and

Cancel:

Error retrieving host name for the machine
- stop installation of all products (or)
- stop installation of this product only.

and at last it is showing that installation was unsuccessful.

I have chosen 9i for personal purpose and database for general purpose.

Please give me reply with the solution for the above problem.

Thanks in advance.

HI,

The problem is solved.

To activate IP address we need Local Area Network in windows.

To install LAN we need network adapter.

To install "Network Adapter" we need to go to Control Panel....
Add Hardware..... select network adapter...

if the network adapter is not there in the list ...click add more hardware and select network adapter.. and click install.

then the LAN is automatically installed and u can give ip address.

I think it is useful to u.

bye

Ramanaji
